How Free Basic and AI Refined handle photos, accounts, Credits, payments, analytics, retention, and deletion.

At a Glance

Blur Background has two separate processing paths:

  • Free Basic processes one photo in your browser. The photo is not automatically uploaded to Blur Background or an AI service.
  • AI Refined is an optional signed-in workflow. After you explicitly confirm the 10-Credit task, the source photo is uploaded to private storage and made available to our current AI infrastructure service, Fal, through a short-lived signed link. Fal returns a subject mask; the final blur and compositing run in your browser. The final PNG is then uploaded to private storage so it can be verified and downloaded.

Free Basic Photos

Free Basic may read and validate the photo's format, file size, pixel dimensions, and browser decoding support on your device. The active preview and result use browser memory and temporary object URLs.

Blur Background analytics are designed not to receive the photo bytes, canvas content, object URL, file name, EXIF data, image hash, base64 data, signed media URL, or face/subject data. If local processing cannot finish, the photo is not silently uploaded as a fallback.

AI Refined Photos

AI Refined requires an account, sufficient Credits, and explicit confirmation. The service creates a private task record, reserves 10 Credits, and issues a short-lived upload link. The source is stored under a generated private object key rather than your original file name.

Fal receives a short-lived URL to the source image and processes it to create a subject mask. Blur Background privately copies that mask for the browser rendering step. The browser combines the original subject with the blurred background, produces a PNG, and uploads the result to private storage. Credits are finalized only after the service verifies the result; eligible failures restore the reserved Credits.

Fal's own handling of API request data and generated files is governed by the Fal Privacy Policy and Fal data-retention documentation. Fal's retention rules are separate from the limits for Blur Background's own private copies.

Browser Recovery Data

To recover an interrupted AI Refined task in the same browser, the app may keep the working photo, task reference, selected blur strength, and non-secret recovery metadata in IndexedDB for up to 30 minutes. The app clears expired or completed recovery records; you can clear this site's browser data to remove one sooner.

Accounts, Orders, and Credits

When you sign in or purchase Credits, we may process your account identifier and email, authentication/session records, order and payment status, Credit grants, reservations, finalization or restoration records, and fraud/security metadata. Payment providers process payment credentials under their own terms. Do not send card numbers or other sensitive payment details to support.

Analytics and Support

Depending on the configured analytics services, we may collect page views and limited product events such as locale, processing mode, validation category, coarse file-size bucket, supported media type, stage, and sanitized error category. These events help us understand reliability and usage without attaching image content.

If you contact support, we process the email address, message, category, and account/order/task references you choose to provide. Please do not attach private photos unless support first provides a limited, secure review method.

Retention and Deletion

  • Free Basic photos are not copied to Blur Background cloud storage. Resetting or closing the page removes the active in-browser workflow; browser data can be cleared separately.
  • An AI Refined source photo is available privately for no more than 24 hours after upload. During that window, a signed-in owner may reopen the original/result comparison. After the source expires, the comparison is no longer available.
  • A delivered AI Refined result remains private and available to its signed-in owner for up to 30 days after delivery. Download it before expiry if you want to keep it longer.
  • Temporary task media, including a Fal-generated mask, is deleted after browser rendering completes or the task terminates. If an expected cleanup fails, the service records a retry rather than treating the file as publicly available.
  • Operational Blur task metadata is scheduled for deletion 90 days after the task terminates, after associated private media has been removed. Separate account, Credit-ledger, order, payment, security, support, backup, dispute, and legal records may be retained longer where needed to operate the service, reconcile transactions, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations.

Scheduled deletion is retried when private-storage removal fails. Bucket lifecycle rules provide an additional cleanup safeguard, so physical removal may complete shortly after an access window closes rather than at the exact second of expiry. Expired media is not made available through the owner download interface.

Deleting media does not reverse a completed Credit charge. See Data Deletion for available actions and request steps.

Service Providers and Transfers

We use service providers for hosting and private object storage, authentication, payments, analytics, email/support, and AI mask processing. These providers may process data in countries other than yours under their own terms and the arrangements applicable to Blur Background. The exact providers enabled can vary by deployment configuration; AI Refined currently uses Fal for mask processing.

Your Choices and Requests

You can use Free Basic without an account, decline AI Refined, clear local browser data, download or delete an available paid result, and request access, correction, or deletion of account-related data where applicable. We may need to verify account ownership before acting. Some payment, security, or legal records may need to be retained.

Email support@blurbackground.vip from your account email when possible. Include only the minimum account, order, or task reference needed. See Contact Support for guidance.

Security and Policy Changes

We use private object storage, short-lived signed links, owner checks, and server-side AI credentials for AI Refined. No online service can promise absolute security. We may update this policy when the product, third-party services, or legal requirements change; the date shown on this page identifies the current version.
